Responses re editing by Ron/RKedit
On Oct. 1, 2006 — months before Orléans Embrace won two nationally prestigious Ben Franklin gold medals and other awards and recognition — Morgana Press publisher Irene Singletary wrote in a ‘Salute to PMA [now IBPA], The Independent Book Publishers Association’:
“The Independent Book Publishers Association (PMA) provided important learning tools and materials that enabled us to keep our dream alive and bring forth our debut title, Orléans Embrace with The Secret Gardens of The Vieux Carré. PMA helped turn our determination, grit and fledgling ideas and talents into reality.
“Distributor after distributor had turned down our title, the republication of a hauntingly beautiful 1993 New Orleans classic pictorial, and we were devastated. We wanted to give up, but did not. We forged ahead, continuing to immerse ourselves in crash-course 'publishing 101’.
“After an exhaustive revamping of the work we surrounded the original unaltered material with a timely New Orleans narrative along with more than 150 additional photographs, thus developing our original title into a powerful new 1st edition compilation featuring a trio of French Quarterite contributors. As well, we found our beloved book editor Ron Kenner through a PMA (now IBPA) marketplace posting; this gentleman really turned the work around…. ”
Ron Kenner has a great eye for detail yet stays focused on the big picture. He gets along well with the writer. To see the clean copy, the writer thinks, 'Yeah, that’s just what I said'. Then you toggle to see the hidden changes and – surprise! Same story! Same voice. Only more deftly – with greater clarity and punch.
